How was your christmas?

Well I hope you all had a great christmas. I personaly got spoilt with alot of geekery.

So with my first bit of  free time since the 23rd I did this. Twice.

thats a fully magnetic Ravager with Darklances and removable sail for ease of transport / imbolised status. Only need a few more Wych boxes and Im ready for the YoTs.... well after painting everything.

Starting on the Bloodletters

Decided to paint something simple today. Getting myself warmed up for a large project over the christmas break.

So thats work started. The bases are done, well except for the 'blood'. The skins pretty much finished too.  Should see these finished over the next few days or so. Tomorrows a big Apoc game at my LGC. So I very much doubt I'll get to finish them then.

Realspace Raids 4 & 5 - A learning curve!

I did a whoopsie again. Its been nearly 2 weeks since I played these games and I totaly forgot to post them.  Due to that fact.... Ive also pretty much forgotten what happened in either..... Sorry.

Both games were against a regular 40K player. He brought a competative Wolves list, 1800 points. The idea being it was practise for the Yorkshire Opens around the end of January.  I learnt alot from these 2 games! It also helped me to decide on my final list, and made me decide Im going to enter the YoT aswell.

Like I said, Ive forgotten what happened. The first game was killpoints and all I can remember is my Archons Shadowfield managed an impressive  32 2++ saves, he held up 2 units in combat for over 4 turns!! He was still alive at the end too. That game ended in a Draw.

The second I remember even less of. I again think it was a draw. Malcolm if your reading, please correct me.

Totals - 3 Wins, 2 Draws.

Bloody Daemons....

My Fantasy project at the moment is a Daemon army. I personaly think since the release of 8th they are actualy a very well balanced army. I am also using them in my LGCs Tail of Gamers league. The idea being we all started with 500 point forces and build and paint them up over the course of time, completeing a 250pts a month quota. You gain points for winning games and meeting your painting quota.

Anyhow December is 1750... and me being me.... Ive yet to paint anything, or even settle on a theme. Couple this with the fact that Daemons are 'balanced' means Im far far down the league.

I did however settle on a list last night, and paint my a base. First the base.

Im trying to get the image that the ground is shattered and broken, and blood is oozing from the rocks. The majority of the army will be Khornate, and I also think this idea could work for tzeech and slaanesh too. Nurgle I dont plan on using, but I could always use green instead if I do. Or paint the Nurles in a more fleshy tone.
Now the flash has made that blood a bit brighter, it actualy looks more like

Thoughts on those? Too bright a red? Thats a 50mm base btw.

Anyhow now the list.  Im planning this for the next step of the comp, thats 2000 points.

Lords
[500]Bloodthirster - (Gen), Obsidain Armour

Hero
[240]Herald of Tzeentch - (BSB) Spell breaker, Master of Sorcery, Great Standard of Sundering
[115]Herald of Khorne - Armour of Khorne

Core
[306]23 Bloodletters - FC
[429]29 Horrors - FC, Changeling, Icon of Sorcery

Rare
[260]3 Bloodcrushers - FC
[140]4 Flamers of Tzeentch

Thoughts on that? Anyideas what lore to pick for the HoT too?  I always pick life and its getting old.

4th Realspace Raid - 1800pts

Playing another good 40K player at my local gaming club today, and all I know is its an 1800 point game. Against what... who knows? Hes a few army's, but there all MEQs, so I have a good idea of what may be coming my way.

The current state of my 'army'. Its gonna take a while but I will get there!

Here's the list I'll be using.

Realspace Raid 3 - 2000pts Daemon Hunters

Para sailing  Grey Knight Terminators, its the future!

So, because RR2 finished early I got a chance to play a mates force. Using the list from RR2, I dropped the Archon and Raider, and added Vect with his Dais and increased the Incubi to 9. I also added another 6 Reavers. This was mostly for trying stuff out, and unfortunately I was having too much fun and didn't take any notes. I'll try and summarise what happened though.

So heres my first Dark Eldar Warrior. With my own colour scheme.

So thoughts guys? Does it need a nother, more extreeme highlight?
Please be realy criticle and give some feedback. Anything will do. I want this whole army to look amazing.

Prepping for the next Raid

GW's Lelith, and awesome model and damn fine on the table too.

Got a game tomorrow night Vs my old driving teacher. A very good player, and plays WAAC. Hes got a sisters force and a chaos one. Ive no clue what hes taking. All I know his very good with his sisters and Rhino wall.

So heres a rework.

HQ
[145]Archon
Combatdrugs
Huskblade
Shadow Field
Soul trap
Hes been given armour, well... by armour I mean a chance of living with the Shadowfield. Huskblade is a PW that causes ID, and with the soultrap possibly kicking me up to STr 6+, should be a winner.

[175]Lelith Hesperax
She's amazing, by far the best character in the book imo

Elite
[110]5 Incubi
[80]Raider
Flickerfield
Nightshield
Dropped the champ upgrade as the Archon will be with them. Why pay for something you can get somewhere else.

Troops

[255]20 Warriors
Sybarite - Champ
Blaster - 18" Str 8 Ap2 Assault 1 Lance
Dark Lance x2
Melded them into 1 base camping objective holding unit. More Darklances as I think im short on anti tank.

[145]9 Wyches
Hexatrix - Champ
Agoniser - Power weapon wounds on a 4+
Blast Pistol - 6" Str 8 Ap2 lance
Hydra Gauntlets - C/A 2 CCW. +D6 attacks instead of +1
[80]Raider
Flickerfield - 5++
Nightshield - minus 6" off of shots aimed at it
Given a raider this time, just to try it out. Droped Haywires after rereading the grenade rules.

Fast
[206]6 Reaver Jetbikes
Champion
Heatlance x2
Caltrops x2
Loved em before, will come on from reserves.

Heavy
[125]Ravager
Darklance x3
Nightshield
Flickerfield
Poroxing a raider for this. Should be potent enough. Can move 12 and fire all 3 lances.

[175]Razorwing Jetfighter
Nightshield
Flickerfield
Gunna poroxy one of my Eldar Falcons for this, just to try it out. Comes armed with TL splinter rifels, 2 dark lances and 4, Str 6, AP5, large blast, one shot missiles. Can move flat out at 36 and move 12 and fire everything! Deepstrikes too, and as deepstriking is counted as moving 12... deepstrike and BOOM! Unload everything onto one poor unit.

Total 1496.

Total 1499

We rolled for mission and got Capture and Control, Pitched Battle. Objecties placed top left and bottom right. The Orks gainin the first turn.
Unfortunatly, due to a technical glitch, the actual notes of what happend and the photos are lost to the warp.

So heres a summary.

Lelith is awesome, as are whyches in general. The number of attacks they kick out is insane. Wounding most things on 5's isnt too great though. I did however get the reroll to wound combat drug, which helps. I also gave the squad Haywire Grenades... which appear masivly overpowered.
Against a walker or Tank how many hits do you get? Haywires say for ever hit I can roll on the Haywire chart for a result. 1= nothing, 2-5 glance, 6 pen. With 3 attacks on the charge thats a shit ton of damage for 20 points. That 1 unit killed a dred, battle waggon a unit of 10 nobs and a big mek.

Flickerfields held up well for the raiders, I did about 6 5++ saves on them. Nightshields rocked too, putting his entire arsenal out of range on the first turn. Spliterracks are nice too, making the 20 splinter rifels shots a turn hurt.

LOVED the bikes! Bladevains are so much fun. I did however run out of units to hurt with them by the last turn.

The incubi lost the raider first turn and spent the whole game running about.

Sorry there isnt more, I promise next time to just use a good old fashioned pen and paper.

So its  1 win to the Dark Eldar.

The first Dark Eldar list.

Ok first game tomorrow I hope. Against a very good 1500 point ork list. Usualy with an army I know what Im doing with, I would be in trouble against this guy. He like a mate of mine always fields the same force and knows it inside out. Like I said, Im in trouble.....
So out of the stuff Ive bought / recieved as gifts I need to make an army.

HQ

Everything is reserved except the Raiders and there contents. The Archon is with the Incubi, his main roll. Get that webway portal down first turn as far into the board as possible! Im hoping that unit takes alot of fire, they have a decent saves and it protects the squishy warriors.
The Jetbikes Im not too sure of, I may start them on the board or reserve them. Depends if I get first turn realy.
Harles and the Wyches along with Lelith come out of the WWP. Only reason its there to be honest, as I dont have that many Raiders. Getting them into combat from the bat I hope.  Fingers crossed! I'll need all the luck I can get.

Work begins

Started the build. Heres my first Raider, a total cock up tbh! Ive ballsed up the darklance while trying to magnetise it. I found out it cant be done, you just dont get drills that small. Ive also glued everything on it. As you can see. Well except the crew.

Its only now I actualy thought about storage.... take those poles off. Wich btw I think could be a wargear item, grisley tropheys (rerolls failed LD tests within 6"). The sail could easly clip in too, making it far more manageable. I also think the spikes and chains are all wargear upgrades, breaking WYSIWYG. Ah well, its a model to test paint schemes on eh.

The sucess of the night are the jet bikers.

All with fully interchangeable weapons and upgrades. Score! :)  Pity the unit looks to be a more 'friendly game' one. Anyhow I get the base coats on tonight, got all day to choose some colours.

So Ive decided...

Ive had some insightful conversations with friends recently, about my facination with 'themed' forces. All of them ended pretty much with the point of fact that I must actualy be unhappy with the army, becasue Im trying to turn it into something else. Something its not.... Tyranids are not a fast hitting force by nature, there a swarm. If I want fast play Blood Angles or Eldar. Same with the Harlequin theme, Eldar are not good at assaults in general, also having something thats T3 with a 5+ save running about is asking for a  massive casuality rate.

Anyhow to cut it short, Im esential brushing my other 40K projects to one side, and hopping on the Dark Eldar bandwaggon. There fast, assaulty and best of all, shiney!

Stay tuned for more over the comming weeks.

What I've been up too.

Again no post for ages, sorry for that. Anyhow Ive been spending alot of time dablling with 40K. Im toying with a few idea's for a nice themed list with alot of modeling potential. Something I can realy get my teeth into. My current choices are a Winged Tyranids force and Harlequin Eldar. Ive had a few try outs with a winged Nid's force. Here's what Ive been running.

HQ
[270]Hive Tyrant - TL Devourer, Sword n whip, Wings, Old adversary

Elite

[240]Trygon Prime - adrenal glands

Total 2000

I played against a mates Chaos Marines, and tbh I got my ass handed to me. Both harpys and my hive tyant were dead end of turn 2, mostly because I left them out in the open. Leaving me pretty much playing 1000 pts Vs 1500 pts. The Gargoyles did awesome and killed a Daemon prince that charged them.  Termigants did great too sticking about and holding up units in combat. At one point I had 8 fearless checks of 6+ to make, with only 4 gants left I thought they were toast. I managed 6 6's only killing 2!! Even more amazingly, twice they were out of synapse and had lost combat, and twice they got double 1's for the LD check!! Finn was spitting feathers at my jammy dice rolls!  Anyhow I forfited on turn 5 as I only had 2 dryed up Tervigons left and he had all the objectives covered.

Initial thoughts on the list were I need to abuse cover more. Specialy for the MC's.  Ive another game today with this list, and my first trial with the Harlequins.  I'll report how that goes later.

Swings and Roundabouts

Sorry for  no updates again. You know how life is, one min you have free time comming out your ears, next you cant breath for fear that you'll be given something else to do. Thats how lifes been since AGoM V. Hetic.

AGoM V was a learning curve for me, a nice event at a nice venue. If you havn't been to Warhammer World, and live fairly close, its worth the trip. I did pretty well, winning 3 of the 6 games and only loosing 1, finishing up 22nd out of 64.  A result I was very happy with.  The army also got nominated for the cheesy award, taking second place too this Nuln Army.

How many pie plates?!

So, I have the ticket for AGoM VI. I need a new 8th Ed army.... now to choose what that will be.

WAlter Done!

My War Alter. Prolly one of the uglyer models GW do. But I dont have time to convert one. CCPP's inc (thats crappy camera phone pictures)

The gap beneth the skull is for the Warrior Priest, when he's finished. Anyhow, back to it! Im getting there.

Lots to do!

Dont you hate it, you think your pretty much set. Nearly all complete, ready to roll. Then you remember something you havent done, so you get cracking at it.  You then remember something else, or that first thing actualy turns out to be a major job, and the next thing you know, you doubt you'll be done for the deadline. That was me this morning.

Let me explain, as you may or may no know, I'm attending A Gathering of Might  this up comming bankholiday weekend. Six games of Warhammer over two days at 1500 points. Not is this my first real tournament, all the other I've attened have ben run by mates mostly for fun, but its my first 8th Ed tournament too.

Anyhow Friday gone I was taking stock, so to speak, of whats been done and all looked well. I had to finish painting about 20 Swordsmen and do the 4 characters. Easy for the 2 weeks I have left. So I spent the weekend playing Warhammer Online and generaly enjoying the weather. Last night, when I took another look I realised there was so much more to do. Glancing at the completed Swordsmen I noticed I hadnt done there shields. Fair enough I though. Its not that hard to paint 40 or so shields. Then I noticed I hadnt based them or infact any of the models I was taking, they all needed magnetising too. So now Im thinking there arnt enough hours in the day. So far I have to..
  • Fully paint 20 Swordsmen
  • Detail 20 Hangunners
  • Paint 4 Characters
  • Paint 2 horse's and finish the WAlter.
  • Base 62 models
  • Magnetise 60 Models
All in 2 weeks..... bugger.

So have you guys ever done something like this? Whats the odds on me being done in time you think?

Right Ive lots to do, better get cracking. Piccys as 'n' when

Work In Progress

So heres my Steam Tank. She's nearly done, so you'll have to wait for a good photo with the final thing.

So.... the Steam Tank. Got some love with 8th, T10 is quiet scarey. It also took a kicking with its imunity to almost all magic being removed. I personaly still rate it, but not for what it did in 7th. In 8th this is a massive 300 point unbreakable unit that you'll only ever wound on a 6. It will tie up the most killy of units for many a turn.... and when it finaly does start to die, you can heal it right back up again.

A Gathering of Empire

So I'm off work for a while after having surgery on my leg, and have decided to get my Empire force fit and ready for A Gathering of Might at the end of the month.
Its a 1500pts 8th Ed warhammer tournament with 6 games over 2 days. One of each of the scenarios from the BRB.  A word of warning first though, these will not be up to my usual standard as im trying to get the whole army done in little time, that and I'm on some realy good painkillers!

Heres the first part, 3 canon crew.  More to follow!

Saturday, July 17, 2010

The First Bonejack

My first Cryx mini, painted and based. Nothing much more to say realy. I've spent a month, on and off, painting it. At this rate I should have the starter box finished for christmas.

You will however see more stuff from me other the next 6 weeks or so. Ive entered a Tournament called 'A Gathering of Might'. 1500 points of 8th Ed warhammer, no special characters, 6 games over 2 days.
I was planing to field the rats to this event, but time and money both mean thats not possible. So I will be dusting off the Empire. This will be my first real tournament event. Wish me luck!

Who's sitting this one out?

Recently I found out that a local store will be running a small, friendly, 35 point Warmachine tournament. No prize, no fee's, just for fun. Now me being me, I cant decide what warcaster I'm gunna field. I have however decided I'm gunna field a tiered list. I'm torn between three warcasters. I'll write a little about each and explain my thoughts.

The break....

Ok so I've been away a while, you know how it is. Work, real life and the summer in general. I've not however been totaly away from the hobby. I doubt many of us ever actualy are.

Sunday, May 16, 2010

The 13th spell....

... flipping rocks!

I played agaist Vampire Counts today. 2000 points, I took the list in the post below. He took a nice VC list, no named characters except Vargulf.
First game, I won on turn 1. The only game I have ever won on turn 1. I got to go first, advanced forward. Nothing of note realy, as the magic fluffed it. Come his magic phase, he misscast with his General. Then rolled a double 1. Killing him outright. He would of mostly crumbled before I got into combat so we restarted.

2000pts Skaven

So today Im taking my skaven out for a propper run. So to speak. This will be my true first 2000 point game with this army. I say true because I have actualy played a 2000 point game already, I just had to use nearly 1000 points of characters so I could play it..... Not good for a 'swarmy' army. Specialy as when Squeek finaly got into combat, he promtly got picked up and smushed by a Giant.  We left a small piece of blue tack stuck to the tabel as a smeer of honour for him.

Saturday, May 08, 2010

Welcome the Nightmare Empire.

So, me being me again, today I impulse bought a small Cryx Warmachine force. Now Im a big fan of Warmachine, I just dont play it enough. I've had a fairly large, mostly unassembled, Khador force for about 18 months, and I've just never gotten around to it.

Monday, May 03, 2010

Work begins

So Ive finaly started to paint the army. Typicaly me being me, I went right for the good stuff first, instead of saving it as a 'reward' for finishing a unit.

Sunday, April 18, 2010

First Skaven battle - 750pts

So I had my first true Skaven battle today. My 'mighty' forces took on a rather large, for the points, Empire force.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Some of my work

Just realised I havent actualy post any photo's of my work. So heres my last attempt at painting something to a decent standard. This was done back in December for the Librarium Online forums a Secret Santa style mini exchange. I know the person who recived it loved it, its just a pitty I never actualy recieved mine.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Making a list.

Well, I have had the book for a few days now, and I'll be thruthful. I haven't read it through. I have however done what everyone does with a new toy, and gone to the 'best bits'.

So using a little program called Armybuilder. I've come up with a fairly decent (I think) 750pt list for an escalation type campaign currently taking place down at my LGC.

750pts Skaven.

Plague Priest - lvl 2, Flail, Plague Furnace
Warlock Engineer -  lvl 2, Doomrocket, Warplock pistol
Plague Monks x20 - FC
Clanrats x20 - FC, Shields
Slaves x20 - Mus

So thoughts? Also when you get a new book, which bit do you flick to and read first? Do you read all the fluff or only ever read the back 15 or so pages?

Saturday, April 10, 2010

The Under-Empire

So its decided. Ive gone with the Children of the Horned Rat, the populace of the Under-Empire. Skaven.

Works already begun on geting the swarm ready for battle. More updates soon.

Friday, April 09, 2010

Welcome one and all!

Well, I've finaly done it. I've gone and started a blog.  Now before I start rambling on, I will introduce myself.

Ive been playing tabletop games for a little over 3 years, and..... well,  thats the problem. Ive been playing for 3 years. I have multiple armys for multiple games, and I can count the number of fully painted units I have on 1 hand. Now I actualy enjoy painting, and I dont think Im too shabby either. So Im hoping this blog will encourage me to produce some nice looking units and eventualy armys. Of course I would love any coments on the minis or even any tips you may have to help me.

Anyhow back on track, tomorrows a big day for me. Im going out and buying what will be my new Warhammer army. This will of course be the main focus of this blog for a while, boy's and their toys n all that. Which army that will be is still up in the air, as you'll soon find out I'm a very fickle person, but its a toss up between Skaven and Tomb Kings. Who knows what tomorrow will bring....
